ATAS INTERNATIONAL

The outcome of that effort is a new generation of heat pipes, costing one third the price of the aerospace heat pipes, while offering the same level of performance. This revolution shattered the price barrier that restricted the widespread implementation of heat pipes, yielding a short return on investment, often as little as a year. Projects to follow proved the technology could be applied on any scale, while being commercially viable and practical to implement. HydroProducts Company was founded in 1988 by a chemical engineer with an extensive background in steam systems, water treatment, and energy conservation programs. After years of observing continuing maintenance costs and steam losses commonly associated with conventional mechanical steam traps, he became interested in various alternative type devices, including the so-called "fixed orifice" devices. After discussions with NASA personnel through the Technology Transfer Program of the Federal Government, he designed a nozzle device with an interior venturi-like design followed by an exceedingly long discharge tube with a slightly larger diameter. Test results were immediately amazing as units were installed as trials in a wide variety of both industrial and institutional applications. The nozzle's success in handling widely fluctuating condensate loads in applications such as steam absorption chillers and large air handling systems demonstrated the nozzle's ability to work in concert with the modulating control valve on incoming steam lines. The nozzles condensate discharge capacity constantly fluctuated as a function of the control valve's position. Steam losses were minimal regardless of load demands. Similar successes were experienced in a wide variety of industrial applications such as corrugating machines and can dryers in the textile industry. Now, with more than 10,000 units on stream in United States alone, the potential for this unique nozzle device appears tremendous.
