This is the story of Museum Sustainability 2.0.Museums have the opportunity to demonstrate that cultural institutions can be platforms and places for catalysts for social and community wellbeing. This session will tie dynamic concepts of Web 2.0 and mashup to a Museum Platform. There is opportunities to tie museum missions to sustainability and present concepts, demonstrations, and hold conversations at museums venues.African American Museums are rooted in community.Science Centers are highly interactive.Realizing that sustainability cannot be done alone, this session seeks to present 2 years of work on Museum Sustainability 2.0; projects with both the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and the Michigan Science Center within the Cultural Center in Detroit, Michigan. This presentation will explore research practices and multidisciplinary approaches drawing from (architecture, urban planning, engineering, and service design) to create visions for zero-waste, zero-water and zero-carbon management, demonstration and community space. Coupled with engineering collaborators and experts, we have collectively implemented sustainability projects in creative ways with much emphasis on how data can change behaviors. We will run through several case-studies of using service design thinking, BIM modeling, and iterative prototyping methods to create conversations with decision makers to create a sustainability framework throughout the people, projects and programs at the museum.
