Eli Levine leads the DOE's Better Plants Program and Challenge (Better Plants). Better Plants is part of DOE's Better Buildings Initiative, a multi-sector effort with the overarching goal of significantly improving the energy efficiency of commercial, residential, and industrial buildings in the U.S. Eli also leads the Technologist in Residence program, designed to strengthen long-term collaborative lab-industry relationships. Prior to taking on Better Plants, Eli served as Acting Director of the Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI). In this role, he spearheaded the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) effort to increase U.S. competitiveness in manufacturing clean energy technologies by boosting energy productivity and leveraging low-cost domestic energy resources and feedstocks. Before joining EERE and CEMI, he worked on energy issues at the White House, the Council on Environmental Quality, and the Office of Management and Budget. Eli joined DOE as a Presidential Management Fellow to help stand up the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) in 2010. He is a graduate of Washington University School of Law and Cornell University.
