David Fountain is the North Carolina president of Duke Energy, serving approximately 7 million customers in 85 counties across the state. In this role, he is responsible for advancing the company€s rate and regulatory initiatives, while managing state and local regulatory and government relations, economic development, community affairs, water strategy, hydroelectric licensing and lake services. Prior to assuming his current position in September 2015, David served as senior vice president of enterprise legal support for Duke Energy. David joined Carolina Power & Light in 2000 and served in various legal roles with Duke Energy and its predecessor companies for 15 years. A lifelong North Carolinian, raised in Guilford County, David understands the important role energy plays in North Carolina€s ability to compete nationally and globally for jobs, business investment and economic opportunity. David earned his JD, MBA and undergraduate degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and a graduate of Leadership North Carolina. David currently serves as chair of the North Carolina Chamber and is a member of its executive committee. He also serves as immediate past chair of the Leadership North Carolina board and on the boards of the YMCA of the Triangle, the Alexander YMCA, the Shepherd€s Table Soup Kitchen and the Dix Park Conservancy in Raleigh, NC. He is a former chair and two-term board member of Marbles Kids Museum. David and his wife, Lucy, have three daughters and live in Raleigh.
