Track G | High Performance Buildings & Communities
Increasingly, North American cities are developing energy and climate master plans to capture substantial long-term economic, environmental and social benefits that will underpin the community’s competitiveness for decades to come. Developing these plans with all the relevant community involvement and engagement is challenging enough. Creating the conditions for gaining approval of these plans and ensuring sustained implementation takes place is even more challenging. The speaker will walk through the steps necessary to create municipal energy and climate plans that meet or exceed global norms, and summarize some of the benefits that can be expected. More importantly, the prerequisites for long-term successful implementation will be outlined. These will include the outreach, institutional and policy aspects, as well as the technical and financial requirements.
