Is the Electric Grid Really Ready for Solar?

Tom Key

Solar PV generation, with increasing prominence, is the new reality for the electric grid. It’s a bit like an arranged marriage with benefits for both sides. In fact the marriage offers more than just convenience. Sure, the grid is conveniently available, but it’s also dependable, well established, can be adaptable, and forgiving with a lot of capacity for give and take. Solar is also coming around to provide more support and new services to the gird. Still, like in any marriage there are some incompatibilities and adjustments that need attention. This talk will review a number of things that are happening to better prepare both the grid and the solar for this relationship. There is good progress to report, and all the context of a relationship that is expected to last.“
