Dr. Prof. Rajagopal Dhar Chakraborti
Director and Professor

Professor Rajagopal Dhar Chakraborti is currently the Director of the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, the first B School up in India. He was the Registrar of the University of Calcutta, for a year from April 2017 and was also University’s Deputy Registrar in 1989-1990. He has been a Professor of economics and demography in the same University since August 2002. He is also an International Faculty with the United Nations International Institute on Ageing (INIA) at Malta. He held the post of full time Head of the Department thrice and was the main coordinator for India China Knowledge, Initiative and Capacity building- a tripartite project involving Calcutta University, Yunnan University, Kunming, China and The New School, New York.

Studied at Calcutta University, The London School of Economics and The East West Center in Hawaii, Professor Chakraborti has taught at the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum, and St Xavier’s College, Calcutta, and various other institutions in India and abroad. He was a visiting professor at the Department of Gerontology, St Thomas University, New Brunswick, Canada; Department of Management, Tianjin University, Tianjin, China, the Institute of Population and Development, Nankai University, Tianjin, China and the Population Research Centre, Renmin University, Beijing, China.

A former Visiting Fellow of the London School of Economics and Political Science (2000-2001), Professor Chakraborti is a recipient of the Ford Foundation sponsored Asia Fellowship and researched extensively on ageing patterns in China. He is a recipient of The Wellcome Trust Post Doctoral Fellowship. Widely travelled, Prof. Chakraborti has several publications on the subject of ageing, demography and political economy. His “Greying of India” published by Sage Publications, New Delhi, London, Thousand Oak and Quantitative Methods published by McGraw-Hill was well received by media and market. He appears regularly on page edit and TV talk shows on international relations, domestic political and economic issues.
