Applying Root Cause Analysis to Compressed Air

Compressed air is vital to industrial manufacturing. Without it, production comes to a halt. In cases of downtime, the most common reaction is to do whatever is necessary to bring production back online. This results in addressing symptoms rather than the actual cause. While addressing the symptom(s) provides an immediate solution, it is typically a short-lived one since it does nothing to prevent the problem from re-occurring.

Applying the principles of Root Cause Analysis to a compressed air system is a methodical way to identify the underlying cause of the problem and also prescribe solutions to address it. This presentation will outline how to use tools such as the Five Whys and Ishikawa Diagrams to perform root cause analysis on common problems modern industrial plants face with their compressed air system.
