Bio:

Jay Karan is currently the corporate Fired Equipment and Energy Optimization Leader for Koch Ag & Energy Solutions, supporting six fertilizer manufacturing sites and 22 terminals. He has a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University and over 32 years of experience in roles in Plant Operations, R&D and Engineering for Process Industry. His core subject matter expertise is in combustion and heat transfer.

Abstract:

Recent advances in Laser Spectrometry has led to the development of a new generation of real-time, in-situ flue gas analyzers that provide hitherto unavailable insight into combustion performance inside process heating furnaces. This information enables better optimization for energy efficiency as well as productivity. ZoloScanTM is a laser spectrometry system that uniquely uses multiplexed lasers to provide high resolution real-time information. This presentation explains the experience and benefits of installing and using a ZoloScanTM system in a Steam Methane Reformer in an Ammonia plant.
